CROSSLINK is an event aimed to provide a platform for dialogue between Singapore university students and Japanese companies. Currently, we are accepting applications for the next session.
One&Co acts as a business platform between Japan and Singapore. We first organized CROSSLINK last year, hoping to become a bridge between Japanese companies that are interested in understanding local needs, culture, and values, and the local university students who are looking to work with such companies.
In many Singaporean universities, there is quite a large group of students who are taking Japanese language lessons. At the National University of Singapore on its own, there are more than 40 students in the advanced level Business Japanese language course. These students are interested in Japanese culture, are fluent in Japanese, and are interested in working with Japanese companies in Singapore or working in Japan in the future.
However, with the ongoing pandemic, there is very little exposure to recruitment opportunities with Japanese companies. Even if they personally send emails to companies, the daily volume of emails that companies receive make it difficult for them to get in touch, let alone proceed to an interview.
Furthermore, companies may also find it a challenge to connect directly with interns and potential employees who are currently studying at universities in Singapore. There may also be language barriers when communicating with universities and posting recruitment information on job portals in Singapore.
When we held this event last year, the response from students was beyond our expectations, and reconfirmed the students’ need for this kind of opportunity. Therefore, we decided to continue hosting CROSSLINK.
A picture is worth a thousand words. We believe that if you manage to get a good sense of the company’s atmosphere and environment, the solutions presented in the ideathon will be more realistic and fruitful. As of now, we will be hosting CROSSLINK vol. 2 at 3 different dates (see below), and session 3 will include company visit.
Moreover, by interacting not only with the company representatives for this event, but also with other company employees, the student-company relationships will be stronger and more long-lasting. This relationship could be useful for future formal recruitment and internship hiring as well.
